About Me

My name is Charlotte and I am a qualified therapist from a dual-heritage English & Indian background. I grew up in a working-class family in Derby, and have lived experience of familial mental health difficulties, living in a single-parent home, & living within the benefits system. These aspects of my life influence my practice every day, which is why accessibility & equality are at the heart of my work.

I studied to become a therapist following many years working in social care settings such as registered Children’s Homes and Acute Psychiatric wards. I myself have benefited greatly from personal therapy, which also inspired me to train in this field.

I gained my Masters Degree with Distinction in Person-Centred Experiential Counselling and Psychotherapy from the University of Nottingham, facilitated by David Murphy, Stephen Joseph, & Sue Price. My practice is directly inspired by the work of Carl Rogers & the wonderful Person-Centred thinkers who have followed in his steps.

I also hold a BA in Theology from the University of Nottingham, and several qualifications in social care & support.

How I work

I work from a non-pathologising and trauma-informed perspective, meaning our therapeutic work together would be exploring ‘what happened to you?’ rather than ‘what is wrong with you?’. I believe that our lived experiences shape our mental health, and that together we can safely work through this with patience, understanding, and validation.

In my practice, therapy is about a relationship created between myself and my client that is empowering, accepting, safe, and confidential; within the safety of this relationship clients are able to bring any aspect of their lives to examine and process. It is my hope and goal that sessions help clients to find more peace, acceptance, and contentment in their lives.

I work with people age 11+ around any topic that is important to them. I have particular interest in working with clients around complex family dynamics, complex childhood experiences, estrangement, & chronic health in relation to these topics. I am also an LGBTQIA+ & neurodivergence-friendly practitioner and person.
